Caramel Pretzel Brownies – Drizzle Me Skinny! Recipe enthusiasts

[ad_1]

I had a major craving this week – something salty, and something that involved pretzels.  Maybe you”ve been there?  Well, I wasn’t about to settle for just one or the other, so I decided to get creative and combine them into the ultimate sweet and salty treat: Sea Salt Caramel Pretzel Brownies!  Let me tell you, these babies turned out AMAZING!  They’re huge and incredibly satisfying, and at only 5 Weight Watchers points each, they fit perfectly into my Weight Watchers plan. The best part? They’re surprisingly easy to make!  Outside of the pretzels, you probably already have the ingredients you need – especially if you’re used to making any of my other recipes. I keep it lightened up with light butter, unsweetened applesauce, and just a bit of sugar. Smucker’s sugar free caramel topping is a great addition to sweet recipes because it adds a good bit of sweetness without adding a ton of calories or points. So ditch the store-bought snacks and whip up a batch of these yourself.  Trust me, you won’t be disappointed!

Three reasons why you need to make this recipe!

It will curb any sweet and salty cravings.

I love a sweet and salty mixture (like dipping fries in a Frosty!). And this recipe is the perfect pairing. Sweet caramel, crunchy and salty pretzels, all mixed in with a bit of chocolate!

Ingredients you need to make Caramel Pretzel Brownies:

  • 2 cups of pretzels (I used Rold Gold tiny twists) Measure them before crushing them.
  • 1 tablespoon reduced fat margarine melted
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • ⅓ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 egg
  • 2 egg whites or ¼ cup liquid egg whites
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ⅓ cup unsweetened apple sauce
  • 1 tablespoon mini chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons Smucker’s sugar free caramel topping
  • Pinch of sea saltDSCN7675

How to make Caramel Pretzel Brownies (step by step):

  1. Preheat the oven to 350F, and spray a 9 inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
  2. Crush the pretzels into a crumb by placing them in a bag and using a heavy glass to crush them.
  3. Sprinkle the pretzel crumbs into the bottom of the sprayed baking dish, then drizzle the melted margarine on top of the pretzel crumbs.
  4. In a bowl, beat together the egg, egg whites, sugar, and apple sauce for 2 minutes- until light and fluffy.
  5. Stir in the vanilla extract, all purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and chocolate chips and mix well.
  6. Very gently pour the brownie batter onto the pretzel crumbs. Try to spread it without messing up the crumbs too much. It’s ok if some show through around the edges.
  7. Pour the caramel sauce into a small zip lock bag, cut off the tip of the bag, and drizzle it onto the brownie batter. Top with a pinch of sea salt.
  8. Bake in the oven for 20-23 minutes.
  9. Let them cool then cut into 9 large brownies. Enjoy!
