DSCN4358Different ways to change up this recipe:

  • You can’t really change up the gummy candies much (see the tips and tricks below), but you could add some food coloring to make the donuts more fun and colorful.
  • You could make a colorful glaze by combining Swerve Confectioners sugar, a tiny bit of water, and a few drops of food coloring. Drizzle it over the donuts or dip each donut into the glaze.
  • You could omit the gummy candy altogether and just add more sprinkles if a sprinkle donut sounds good to you.
  • To save some points, you could try using baking Splenda instead of sugar. Swerve is also a good brand if you’re looking for sugar substitutes.

Tips and Tricks for Making Gummy Candy Donuts:

  • FYI don’t use regular gummy bears or gummy candy. They will explode everywhere! Baking gummies are a great alternative and they can usually be found in the baking aisle or local bulk food store.
  • You can whip the egg whites until they’re light and fluffy before folding them into the batter. That will help the donuts rise and stay light rather than dense.
  • Store these on the counter – sealed tightly – for up to 3 days, in the fridge for up to 5 days (although keeping them in the fridge can make the gummy candy hard), or in the freezer for up to 3 months.
  • To make these gluten-free, use a gluten-free flour blend but add in ½ tsp of extra baking powder and definitely whip the egg whites before adding them to the batter. Gluten-free baking tends to be very dense, so the base recipe needs help getting light and airy.
